how do you guys manage this? let's say you have 128GB ram - will you need a swap file with the same amount or higher or can you get away with having a smaller one (maybe half?)

Is this a virtualization host? I would imagine either it is; or you have some very specific application you are using the machine for. In either case; swap space will kill performance. I leave mine at default; but if hosts begin to swap we monitor their workload and alter/scale out/up as needed.

Long story short -- Windows knows better than you. Dont let the machine swap out.

If this is a virtualization server (I see other threads you have started regarding storage in for such a case) if the machine starts swapping out you will kill performance over ALL virtual machines.

Do-not-ever-let-a-vm-host-swap. Ever. Give it some room to swap in emergencies, but you better know far in advance of that happening and have a plan to resolve it.

yes it is a virtualization host.. so from what you said i guess i will leave it at let windows manage and keep an eye on it in case a RAM upgrade is needed.
thanks!
