Paging File Problems - Serious Issue HEre, plz help.

Several months ago I was testing overclocks on my computer (1600xp+). By the time I was done I had it running nice and smoothly at 1950XP+ (1.63ghz). Unfortunately, I think I may have damaged somethign in the process, and my computer no longer has the ability to restart or shut down from Win2K. I can either do a hard reboot and/or manual shutdown.

That's not the issue, however. The problem is this. I keep on getting errors and problems in Win2kabout my paging file needing to be increased b/c too many problems occurr. (Right now it is set at 20mb). I right click on My computer go to, Properties, Advanced, Performance Options, Change. RIght now I set Initial Size at 192mb and maximum at 576mb. After I do a hard reboot/shutdown since I have no choice, the Volume Label changes the Paging file to what I set it to. BUT, the currently allocated paging size is labeled at 20mb!!! I have no idea how to change it. I thought it is b/c I can't shutdown/restart probably that my computer can't change the settings, but the Paging File DOES change, yet the allocated size remains at 20mb...so I'm at a loss. Please help.

Thanks ahead of time.

Edit - I have a 40gig harddrive, right now I only have 1.5 gigs free... but more than enough for the paging file.

That 20mb pagefile is a Temporary file that Windows sets up when
it determines that the Pagefile is either sized wrong or corrupt.

Have you tried letting Windows manage the pagefile for you?

Another option is to:

Click Start \Control Panel, then double-click System.
Go to Advanced\Performance Options, click Change, set the "Initial Size"
and the "Maximum Size" values for the paging file to 0 (zero), and then
restart your computer.

After it reboots set the Pagefile to the size you want and reboot.
The Temporary 20mb file should be gone.
