Pages won't load from address bar

Greetings,

Having trouble figuring out what is wrong on a machine.

If I open IE the initial page loads (either the home page, or any page I want if I do a Start-->Run and type in an address).

However, once it is open, I cannot type in another web page name...it just sits there and the page never loads. I can click on links and they work fine, just can't type in an address.

"My Computer" also will not populate its window...just sits there blank.

I've scanned for malware and such and it comes up clean...not a whole lot of software on this thing either. I replaced urlmon.dll, no change.

Any ideas?

Update:

Pages WILL load as long as you put the full HTTP:// in front of them. They will not load if you just type www.blah.com though.

TIA.

Fixed it. In case anybody has this problem, here it is:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918165

I had originally seen this type of problem before, cause by share-to-web, but this machine did not have share to web OR nvidia drivers so I didn't think of it. Plus there was no hung verclsid process happening like there was when I had seen this in the past.

However, the machine did have the old version of this update, so just removing it and re-running windows update got the newer version and all is well.
