pagefile.sys, hiberfil.sys, AND swapfile.sys?

Just curious, is it normal to have all three in Win8.1 64-bit Home/Core?

I'm not familiar with swapfile.sys on NT.

Can someone help educate me? (I do understand swapfile.sys on VMS.)

Edit: Found some info. It's basically a selective hibernation file for Metro / Modern apps.

Not to deter you or distract from the answers you seek, Larry, but we'd crossed paths on another thread recently about these files, and I thought you were an "expert" on the topic!! [Perhaps "us experts" are also the folks that ask the most questions, though . . . ] :sneaky:

I know very well what hiberfil.sys and pagefile.sys are, but I'm only familiar with VMS's swapfile.sys implementation, not NT's. From that link I posted, it apparently works the same way, but only for Metro / Modern apps, and not Win32 apps.

Well, you're apparently upgrading or becoming familiar with Win 8.1. I'm not there yet. My reaction to that is in my post just-made to a concurrent thread.

There's always a learning curve, and there are always new issues. Right now -- I gotta run -- down to the cell-phone store, to deal with a "spesh-ul dea-ull" problem -- also explained in another thread.

I wish I could offer you the insight you need.
