Hey, just noticed my pagefile.sys is over 300 megs in size. Its eating up alot of room on my C partition which is only 1.5 gigs. I want to delete it, just wondering what kinda crap i could encounter, or is it okay?

depends on how much ram you have.

The best thing is the set the pagefile size to be constant manually (setting the low and high numbers to be one and the same)

it also depends on how much you a computer, but a good size would be that RAM+pagefile= ~~384MB.

so if you have 256megs of RAM, 128meg pagefile should be enough. If you have 128megs, 256 meg pagefile should be enough

and remember, make it constant.

if you have 512megs or more, I think its safe to delete, otherwise no.

Dont delete it you'll have a hard time logging back into Win2k... I didn't do that, but I used a Ghost image for a drive once, and when I backed it up, I forgot the page file was on another partition.... Needless to say, without a pagefile, Win2k won't let you log in...

Change the location of your page file in you system properties... Put it on D: or some other location...

1.5G is a little small for a Win2k partition... If you have Partion Magic, maybe you could make it bigger...

Just a couple ideas.

Think of the pagefile as Win2k's version of Win9X's virtual memory, it's a little more complex then that but should giove you enough of an idea to figure out what to do with it. Assuming you understand Win9X's virtual memory that is.

Win2k will not run properly without that file. You can shrink it or move as has been stated, but absolutely do not delete it. It is the swap file for Win2k. Win98 will run without win386.swp, win2k will not run without pagefile.sys.
