I am running Windows 7 Professional from a 120gb SSD. I also have 12mb of memory. The pagefile is 12.5gb and the hiberfil is 9gb. Windows doesn't know what the hiberfil.sys file is in help.
Question: Can I turn off the pagefile on C: without hurting performance. My WD 500gb has it off.
Question: Does anyone know what hiberfil.sys is?

I have the same issue when I install Windows on my (30 + 40GB) SSD drives. Since I have 8GB of RAM, I end up with a huge pagefile and hiberfile.sys.

The hiberfile.sys is used to dump the contents of memory into when you put the computer to sleep.

I've been running for a long time now with no pagefile on my HTPC, but it doesn't do much but Boxee and Windows Media Center duties. Some programs or games might freak out without a pagefile. You can move it to a slower drive, but then what was the point of getting an SSD if you're not going to use it?

I also delete the hibernation file because I never put the computer to sleep (open an administrator command prompt, and type "powercfg /h off" for an instant 8GB of HDD space.)
