I'm using Windows XP SP3. In order to connect my UPS with RS232 cable, I installed Netware protocols on Direct Connection (COM1). After installed it, blue screen error was occured.

"A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage
to your computer.

The problem seems to be caused by the following file: win32k.sys

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen,
restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow
these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed.
If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer
for any Windows updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware
or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing.
If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart
your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then
select Safe Mode.

Technical Information:

*** STOP: 0x10000050 (0xe417a000, 0x00000001, 0xbf8ebdad, 0x00000001)

*** win32k.sys - Address 0xbf8ebdad base at 0xbf800000 DateStamp 0x48025f2a"

I rebooted PC and opening chrome, same blue screen error occured again. Thus, I started pc by safe mode and removed all Netware services/protocols and there is no blue screen anymore. However, I looked several comments and people say PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA generally occurs due to bad memory/RAM. I find something on novell's website.

https://www.novell.com/support/kb/doc.php?id=10090516

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA (0x00000050) in SRVLOC.SYS.

They published fix for netware users and this fix will solve this blue screen error, but my blue screen error is in win32k.sys, not srvloc.sys. Is there something I should be worried? Thanks anyway.

Sounds like a stroll down memory lane perhaps. What model number is this UPS?

Thus, netware settings are still required.
You're on Windows XP, right? What part of Netware Services for Windows, does the UPS require?

1) Does the manual call out this requirement?
2) Have you ever set this up successfully this way before?

I can't help but think you're on the wrong path with this Netware kick.

Edit: Sure that you haven't confused "Netware" (Novell) with "network" (generic term)?
