page count

Why is there no page count anymore in each forum or within a thread? Current page and next/last, but no individual count. Kind of a useful thing, not much point to removing it.

I see, in this thread "Pages: [ 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 >> Next ]".

At the Forum Issues page, I see:
" **!!SUPPORT THE COOKIE PETITION!!**
Pages: 1 2
We need a cookie!!!!!!!!! 🙁 "

Using IE 6.

He's talking about the top of the Categories, not threads.

You used to see:

Pages: [ 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 >> Next ]

Now it's just:

pg. 1 Next >>

It was done for performance on paging result sets, and works quite well. It's pointless to put page numbers when there are probably over 1000 pages of results.

Damn non-descriptive topic titles that don't let me search properly. 🙂

I've never seen 1000 pages listed. That's what limiting the number of days to go back is for. Heck it has to paginate them sometime. Now it's just got to do it one at a time.

Not that I think it'll change or anything, just griping. I've never seen a forum that didn't have such a feature.

Again, this was done for high performance db calls for the pagination system. Let's take general hardware for example, 9000 threads. At 50 threads per page thats 180 pages. Are you going to read 9000 thread titles one page at a time? Kind of pointless..

Without getting into table locks and indepth sql analysis, I cannot explain the core reasons behind this. So far, you guys are the only ones that have found issue with it.
