Manny Pacquiao's next fight is official. The Filipino sensation will face old rival and reigning lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez on November 12 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Top Rank (Pacquiao's promoter) met today with Marquez and hammered out the deal.

As many know, Golden Boy Promotions had the right to match any competing promoters' offers for a Marquez fight, but GBP simply could not match what Top Rank offered here, though they did try to get creative. When the fight was thought to be Marquez getting $5 million for a 147-pound fight with Pacquiao, they offered $5 million for Marquez to face Saul "Canelo" Alvarez at the same weight.

And when the weight for the fight dipped down to 144 pounds, Golden Boy considered involving Victor Ortiz. Ultimately, nothing was enough, and Golden Boy couldn't reasonably match the latest reported offer, which is $5 million for Marquez at a 144-pound catchweight, with a $10 million payday for a fourth fight between the two if Marquez upsets Pacquiao in November.

The fight has seemed like a done deal for about a week now, and the initial offer by Top Rank was sent to Golden Boy's lawyers even before Pacquiao faced Shane Mosley on May 7, though Bob Arum and the company refused to publicly discuss the offer. Now it's official, and Arum says that Golden Boy has signed off on everything, according to Steve Kim.

A television outlet has not been officially announced, but one would expect both Showtime PPV and HBO PPV to make serious offers. The world of televised boxing right now is a lot brighter if you're the network with Manny Pacquiao in your corner. If nothing is announced soon, a telling sign could be which network -- if either -- makes a play to air Marquez's scheduled July 2 tune-up fight with David Diaz.

Like has been said before a million times, this is a retarded fight and the only one that matters is Pacquiao v Mayweather which is never going to happen. Boxing is dying.

Floyd is chicken. He knows he'll get his ass kicked and won't get into the ring with Pac. Everyone knows this.

Yea if the Mayweather fight doesnt happen, you can pretty much call boxing done.

If the Silva v Pierre fight doesnt happen, you can pretty much call MMA retarded.

I don't see it confirmed on any other site. Based on what I read just now, it's not fully official yet.

Fighters have been dodging other fighters since as long as I can remember without the sport dying, but now there is MMA waiting in the wings. They are giving these guys too much money to fight the same chumps over and over again.

Gonna be boring unless Pacquiao is <=140 lbs, and at actual Lightweight/Super Lightweight weight. Marquez is really only effective in the Featherweight/Lightweight range (130~-135) so 144 is just going to be a Mayweather/Marquez bad sequel @ welterweight.

I feel kinda bad for Pacman because there's really noone in his weight class he can fight aside from Mayweather that will be competitive. If he goes up a weight class to light middleweight and actually fights a real contender (margarito was a handpicked gopher ball) he would risk a bad knockout and in any case is too short and light to box with Martinez/Williams. Of course, if he beats one of them, his legend would be magnified by 10 because he won't be a clear favorite.

Pacman's best bet is to go back down in weight and rip his way through the current fresh meat of Lightweights and Featherweights... he won't risk getting knocked out but at least will take SOME kind of risk in facing real competition that can also have the speed to throw 1000 punches per fight.

I can agree with that. You can only have the same boxers box eachother over and over again.

In my eyes the fight was a draw. But the champ always gets the benefit of the doubt in close fights, so I don't really have a problem with the decision.
