That's why I keep all my original boxes :(

Can you contact the manu. and see if they can send you an empty box for a nominal fee? Many companies do this.

Otherwise, yeah, you have to keep the TV upright. When you pack otherstuff, I would put it in between flat big items, not items with stuff sticking out that could puncture the screen. For example, i would place the TV upright between 2 dressers in the Uhaul with plenty of blankets.

If it is a current LCD model, maybe go to Best Buy and see if they have any boxes for that particular tv from recent demos tvs they unpacked.

If not, you could buy some sheets of foam and some foam blocks, create solid, stable foam base cushion under tv (distribute weight of tv stand over it's whole surface because plastic base is potentially brittle under sustained strain if all weight is focused on just a few spots, rather than across full surface of base), then tape some blocks into top corners (not touching screen) as wedges in between some really stable boxes or dressers, etc.

When you pack U-Haul, remember to think about how items may shift in transit, dislodging your original padding for LCD, and what could topple over.

edit: maybe put tv directly on stable solid wood shelf, which rests on stable base of a couple sheets of foam.

Well just a suggestion that i have never used or needed to but maybe wrap it in sheets/blanket.

And yes I have transported my LCD in the backseat of my car layed down but it's only 20"
