[Packet Tracer] Assigning Hundreds of Wired Devices To One Switch

Hi, i have a huge virtual network to build, with over 500 devices to wire up, 300 of these being wired PC's, dragging and dropping these 300 devices is extremely long and tedious and clearly the incorrect way to go about it, especially as a switch can only hold 24 wired devices, so this would mean i'd need in total around 25 switches ! does anybody know how i can create these 300 devices, without dragging and dropping?

If you're stuck this early on your homework, you should consider changing to something more your speed.

I would go with 48 port switches at least. Though you can probably look at a "core" switch which will typically have multiple switch blades within a single chassis. I imagine this is a lab though, so I probably would stick with discrete switches. Have one switch act as the "core" then have 11 switches plug into that switch. This seems like a pointless lab though to have to put that many devices. Normally you'd do maybe like 2-3 per switch just to demonstrate what it would be like if there are more.

There's also something called stacking, but that is very vendor specific. Any environment I've been in that could make use of it would usually just have a huge switch chassis instead.

I used Packet Tracer a bit but not familiar enough with it to help in that respect. Are you planning out an actual network roll out or just doing a lab for school or something? If you're planning out an actual deployment then don't bother actually adding every single device. Do a couple per switch/router and that will let you do any tests you want to do. Even in an official network diagram/doc it normally won't go at the individual client device level only the network gear itself. You can always draw a little cloud to represent computers.
