Packard Bell 251cd plus

I just reformatted my hd in a Packard Bell 251cd plus and now it doesnt post (turns on, but nothing appears on the screen). i formated the hd by taking it out of the packard and putting it into another computer with winXP and partition magic 8 (formatted it in FAT ).
Was there something on the hd that helped the motherboard boot up?
 
Curious but why did you take it out of the computer to do that? Does it boot to an a prompt? What operating system? Do you have a boot disc or even a recovery disk from PB? Need some more info.
