Packaging Laptop

hey all,

Returning the 2nd Dell laptop within one month.. the build quality on their laptops seems to have fallen a lot in the past few years.

The laptop box that Dell shipped in was accidentally thrown out by the janitor at our office. If anyone has any tips for safely packaging a laptop to be picked up by Airborne Express I would really appreciate it.. advice on using packing peanuts, wadded paper or any other cushioning material especially needed.

Also, if anyone knows of Dell's policies on crediting refunds if not all the materials the computer shipped with are present-- the oem windows xp cd and several other program cds along with a phone cord and drive screw were also in the box that was discarded-- please enlighten me.

Thanks,
SK

this is a return right?

then just pack it with some packing peanuts and tape up the box tightly. no need to overdo it and waste money.

you may want to call them about the OEM CD's missing.

I would try to find some foam. Laptops are not light and packaging peanuts are alright but I wouldn't want dell to void your warranty claim and say you packaged it poorly.

Thanks for the quick replies!

I called them before I posted here asking about the returns and CDs missing; the csr I spoke to just said (verbatim) "just tape the box up tightly." It wasn't until after I asked about packing peanuts/other materials that she said "Oh yeah.. that's right." Dell customer care --> :disgust:

She said that she didn't know about the missing oem CDs; we'd only find out when Dell receives the system. I asked here because I thought there might be someone who worked at Dell and could tell me in better detail.. I just don't want to be charged $150 for XP home when a) I don't even have the cd and b) the system itself was ~1,300.

Anyways, thanks for the advice.
