if i were you i would take it to mail boxes etc and have them ship it, and make sure you get enough insurance.

It will be comparitively expensive, but shouldn't be anywhere near $200-$250.

If you pack it yourself, pack it well enought that you'd be fine dropping the thing off a two-story building.

UPS or Fed-Ex will do ya fine.

I shipped a PC insured for $1,000 from Oregon to Pennsylvania for under $60 for everything excluding monitor. Two large boxes (one for the PC, one for keyboard, mouse, manuals, accessories, etc, etc, etc) Took 5 days, & arrived perfectly. The monitor I had directly shipped from Dell.

Fedex Ground rocks! The only caveat is you have to take it to one of their shipping centers, places like MBETC can't do it. The money & hassle you save makes it well worth it, though.

BTW, UPS wanted double the money & would have taken twice as long.

Its always good to put the computer in a box with good bubble wrapping on it, and then put that box in another box with packing materials, peanuts, etc. Thats how i got my case and it arrived it tip top shape.

Go to a UHaul for some boxes. Their boxes come in many sizes and are pretty thick and strong. They also have all sorts of packing material. You might want more than just bubble wrap between the item and the box itself. Big thick chunks of foam will do well. Or, shoe boxes full of crumpled newspapers. Basically, try to provide 4-6 inches between the PC or monitor to the exterior box. Fill that space with padding. Too soft padding will allow the PC to shift around inside the box. Not good.

I just dropped off a 17" CRT at FedEx for an RMA. $20 to ship a 50 pound box from Texas to California. Not bad.

Styrofoam peanuts will shift around. By the time you drive over to the FedEx place, your computer/monitor will be at the bottom of the box and all the peanuts will be on top. Not good.

The best way is to make sure you send it to my house first.

the BEST kind of packing are those styrofoam cut outs made to fit the case. No shifting at all. Then box it in another box. Ship the monitor seperately.
