I have an OEM processor I am selling and was wondering what the safest means of packaging would be (safest material) as to not cause damage to the pins and or any static discharge...

Thanks in advance.

Without the package that it came in it will be hard to find a perfect fit. I would suggest that you get some 'firm' foam (kinda like some of the noise dampening material). I have recieved a CPU that was shipped that way (it was a professional deal, perfect sized box with this foam on the bottom that the pins could sink into).

If you couldn't find any of that, I MIGHT consider sitting the CPU into some styrofoam that would let the pins sit into it without any severe pressure. The stuff that I am talking about is used for floatation and for artists sculpting. It has millions of similar sized holes in it. It is not the same kind that is used for coffee cups or packing peanuts.

As for static discharge, I would put the CPU/foam into a anti-static bag before I boxed it.

I hope that this helps... I also hope that someone else has a better solution.

yeah, thanks, i have a anti-static bag i was going to use, but i know the foam used in packing peanuts can cause a lot of static, i was wondering where i could find "safe" foam for protecting the pins... if you know where i can find any safe foam that doesn't produce static, let me know

That stuff should work. Also go to your local computer shop and see if they have anything they will sell you. Often they use small rectangular plastic shells that should work.
