Packages shipped using two different carriers

Got a package Friday in the regular US Mail. Looking at the package, it was first shipped from Nevada via Airborne Express to my local Post Office. Then the USPS brought it to my house.

Is this something new? Being able to ship part way on one service, and having the USPS finish the job?

It's one of Airborne's services. Cheaper than actual delivery, yet more expensive and slower than normal priority mail.

It's also a common thing for all carriers for those who live in the fscking boonies. They'll take it as far as they go, and drop it into a mailbox with a First Class label on it.

i believe USPS also uses FEdex for some of their shipments

sounds odd
i guess the USPS could offer some type of drop shipping arrangement

maybe it is a "parntership" deal with AE?

for DHL (airborne) it is called DHL @ home, they ship to your local post office and the post office delivers it. I don't know any any area where we (UPS) use the post office but we do have areas where we use a tiny, local carrier to actually deliver the package. Though that only occures if you are really out in the boonies
