Hey guys. I recently got a pacific digital mach-8 dvd burner from staples. I opened yesterday in preparation to install it and on the drive label on top, it says it was made by NEC. Is this right? Was this a mistake? Should i bring it back to staples and ask whats up?

Pacific Digital...looks like they are selling rebadged drives...without the rebadging. ;) PD sounds like a no-name brand anyways. Keep the NEC and sit tight. :)

Pacific Digital has been around for awhile. They put out good quality drives. If these are rebadged NEC drives then you can't complain. Many companies do this. Nothing to worry about.

Really? Up here, I have only seen Pacific Digital CD-Rs a few years ago, but no hardware. My friend had HUGE issues with PD optical discs. Some would work, most would not. Either way, NEC drives are pretty solid.

i was hoping for an NEC serial #. $100 sounds like a little much considering you can get the top of the line NEC 2510 at newegg for $75.

did it come with any software?
