Pac Bell DSL using Internet Connection Sharing from WIN98

Senior member
Im trying to share Pac Bell DSL with another comp... i can use it fine, but when i do ICS, things get jacked up with the PPPOE prog from PAC BELL... when i dial out.. it doesnt know which NIC to use.. and the NIC im trying to use to share on the LAN will be the only choice...

So, should i get a ROUTER to fix this prob? My friend has Linksys router and he had lots of prob sharing his AT&T Cable modem. And he said LAN transfer is REALLY SLOW!!

What should i do?? I know setting up PPPOE is a pain in the ass for DLS... damn... HELP

Most DSL authenticate via PPPOE, which is based on some form of software (WinPOET been the most common), which tend to elicit some difficulties.

If you want to stay with software, try to install RASPPPOE instead of WinPoet.

You can find info here:

The best is to get a Router that is PPPOE capable, you insert the ID and PW to the Router and it keeps the DSL live ?forever?, the PPPOE software can be uninstalled, and life is good.

About your friend troubles. Some people have problems with their cars, that does not mean that the rest of us walking (unless your are in NYC).

try this first...
i assume you have enternet 300 because you have pac bell...
when installing ICS make the PPPOE adapter the one that connects to internet and choose the correct adapter for your network...after rebooting...open up your connection...before connecting right click the two BLUE monitors on the right corner and go to advance settings...click the advance button...change...from private to DHCP...ok out of there...connect...you should be good to go after that...if you can connect but cant connect to a site try typing this in the address bar...216.115.108.243...if yahoo.comes up...you need to hard code your DNS server...call pac bell for those...usually theyll give you local DNS servers...if this doesnt work PM me...or reply here...take it easy...

I was fighting with the pacbell service people.. damn idiots out there.. i swear.. so they FINALLY sent someone down cuz ENTERNET 300 was getting jacked up on ME... this is what they did

I am trying to network 2 comps w/ a hub.. they said.."NO U CANT SHARE Internet access.. only one can dial put one at a time"

Im like "I can use ICS u butt heads!! now gimme the newest updated Enternet 300 version "D" "
They said "It is not possible.. the modem isnt designed to handle it.. u gotta buy our $250 router from us"

I said... Get out of my office now!!! u idiots...

Well... it works on one computer.. but I can see the other computer on the network now.. i tried everything... if one thing works.. other things doesnt...

I want cable...
