PA120.3 and 120.2 in a TJ07--bit more difficult than I thought

So I'm building my second watercooling setup in about as many years. Figured this time would go a bit more smoothly. How incorrect I was.

My plan has been to put a 120.3 in the bottom section, with both D5 pumps and the PSU. No problem there, everything all mounted up fine. However, the 120.2 I wanted to mount horizontally up top, and retain the stock fan guard, using it to mount to the 120.2. No go.

Pics to come, but what I've ended up doing is cutting out a 120x4 hole in the top of the case, essentially extending that 120x2ish hole already there, bringing it all the way to the front of the case. The 5.25" bay vertical supports have been cut down quite a bit, so now I'm going to have the 120.2 up top pushed all the way to the front, now with a nice big vent right overhead.

Ideally I would've liked to do that with the vent already there in the rear, but the 120.2 won't clear the mobo unless you somehow custom mount it halfway out of the case, which I am unwilling to do for appearances sake. External rad mounting is for the weak. Butchering my $300 case is much more preferable. errr

Anyway, doing it like this now you lose two-three 5.25" bays depending on which direction you mount the radiator, nozzles toward front or back. But I think it's going to work out fine. I couldn't even get a swiftech mcr220 to mount in the slot I wanted w/o any mods, so I figured why not go all out and cut a nice big chunk out of it. Unfortunately all I have to do that with is a table saw and some luck.

The end result up top will basically be...120x4 radiator grill -> case -> 120.2 ->fans. Should be solid enough.

Anyone done this before? I know there are a loooot of TJ07 modders out there.

Isn't the motherboard tray reversible? I thought you could go with a regular ATX orientation, or flipped atx. That might have given you more clearance at the top.

In my black pear, which has a similar layout as the TJ-07, I was able to mount a 2x120 radiator on the top two fan cutouts.

Plus you already made the holes so it doesn't much matter now anyway.

Yeah, but there might be room for a 120.4 up top now. :D

Liquidsnakes: I'm not quite sure why you didn't just mount both rads in the bottom the way most people do with the TJ07. It should fit a 120.4, 120.2, and your PSU.

Sure it'll fit a 120.4, 120.2, and the PSU...but nothing else. You certainly can't fit that plus two D5's down there, and I've always thought you should put your pumps at the bottom of your loops.

Regardless, having two radiators that close together can't be good for cooling, I wanted to have them a bit more spaced than that. Plus, I've got the 120.3 rocking six fans in push/pull, which should be nice. Once I get the 120.2 mounted up top with the rad grill it should look pretty cool...hopefully.

Doesn't really matter where your pumps are, it's a closed system. It just makes priming them slightly easier if they're the lowest point in your loop.
