Pa. teen crashes into center after passing test

Don't know about PA, but in NY, you're not allowed to drive after you've taken your road test, until your new license comes in the mail. Not sure if that's what it's like now, but that's how they did it 30+ years ago.

Likely, just for this reason. 🙄

thats a really dumb rule.

I got mine immediately afterwords, as I took the test on my 16th birthday and thats the legal driving age in my state

You can definitely drive after the road test now.

When you qualify for a non-commercial license (Class D, DJ, E, M, or MJ), the examiner will issue you a printed receipt - this receipt plus your photo learner permit together will serve as a temporary license valid for 90 days. If the license examiner cannot confirm your eligibility for a driver license, the examiner gives you a receipt that you passed your road test, but the receipt is not a driver license. Your new photo-license will arrive in the postal mail in approximately two weeks.

PA has some of the shittiest drivers.
I see these fuckers on the road everywhere and they merge/switch into lanes without looking or signaling.

You want to find the absolute worst drivers? All you have to do is go down to the nearest university. I live to the north and work just south of a major university. I have to drive past the school twice per day. The sheer guile, speed and incompetence of college-age drivers is just flipping amazing.

The worst drivers are everywhere in America because you can pass the test by using your turn signal at a fake stop sign in an empty airport parking lot. ooo I almost forgot, I had to do a K-turn and drive backwards in a straight line for 30 feet! PASS!

yup, when I passed my exam, they told me that my dad had to drive out of the lot and that I could not.

My NYS road test was on real roads. It was still very easy, but it was not some fake scenario which you imply happens everywhere in America.

Huh? I not only started driving the moment I passed my test, I was driving my work truck the very next day. NY has no such rule.

They even tell you that you can use the little paper receipt to show the police in case you get stopped.

lol. A friend had a hobby store right across from a license/testing place. A lady that was parked in front of his store hit the wrong pedal. Over the parking block, up onto the sidewalk, and into a concrete planter (3' tall x 8' wide x 2' deep attached to the building). The planter didn't stop her, she shoved that thing a good 10' into the store.

Yep, she was on her way to take her driver's test. And she still got to take the test! The officials said they couldn't count that wreck against her since it was before her actual test. Doh!

Yeah not surprising at all. They need to give an actual test, but judging by how DMV's operate in general I doubt that will ever happen.

I never heard of having to wait for your license in the mail either, that's pretty retarded. Even here in Wisconsin you get it right on the spot. They take your picture, you wait 10 minutes while they print/laminate it and you're on your way with the standard plastic license. Same when renewing it, just go to a DMV, wait for 2 hours in a line, get your pic, wait 10 more mins, walk out with new license. They even have everything, and I mean everything, in the building written in both English and Spanish, as well as all announcements in both languages so you don't need to even speak a lick of English to get a license.

That's not unique to PA drivers. That's drivers everywhere.

Worst drivers? South Florida, by FAR. It's not even close.

Here in Ohio, they issue you the full thing there on the spot. You pass the test, you get your picture taken then wait 10-15 mins for it to be made.

When I took the driving exam, they had two students go out in a car. One would take the exam and one would ride in the back.

When I was in the back, the student driving nearly got into a wreck. He pulled out onto a street right in front of traffic. Somehow that only costs him 10 points and he stilled passed with 90.
