Pa. Police Apologize for Scissors Arrest

Police and School officials over react with a 10 years old child.....

Yet another story about over reaction from both the School and the ploice.

As soon as there is a 10 year old that goes to school with scissors and uses them as a weapon... How many parents are going to scream because the authorities didn't take action?

I'd hate to be a police office just for this reason alone... Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Either way, you are made out to look like an ass.

But that is exactly the problem. A lot of people in this country, for SOME reason, have this expectation of total security. When this expectation isn't met, they blame whoever was tasked with protecting them. Since total security isn't possible, we're going to have issues.

hmm...I thought the incident was about the over-reaction of the police officers in having to arrest and handcuff a 10 year old girl and take her to the police station for questioning.

The school shoulda just taken away the scissors, given the girl detention, address the issue over the PA and then had the police come in for a day and talk with the children about why they shouldn't bring scissors or potentially harmful things to the school so that they know not to do that in the future.

umm you dont put 10 yr old little girl in hand cuffs. Whatsa matter with these cops? 10 yr old little girl too much for them to handle?

Not really, use sound judgement and discression like 99% of reasonable officers do. I'm sure "by the book" they could have charged her with federal crimes which are 20 to life for bringing weapons within 500 ft of school. I'm also sure they could have shot her for brandishing a weapon. Least they did'nt go that far,

Explain that to the MANY departments facing lawsuits for not taking enough action AND LOSING!

Never heard of it. I do hear about lots of suits and losing for excessive force like rodney king... another example where 15 cops could'nt handle one dude and went ape.
