PA: Does one exist?

I think I've found a new hobby I enjoy a lot! 🙂

Is there a support group for such people?

I think I might be getting addicted...

And this is my cryptic way of also asking...

I am looking at getting my 3rd lens in 2 months 😱

Currently own a tamron 17-50 f/2.8 and canon L 70-200 f/4 IS USM (love it)...

should I go for something in between or should my third be a prime... like a 85mm or 135mm?

The gap between 50mm and 70mm isn't really a hugely useful one, not for me anyway. I wouldn't recommend trying to fill that gap.

You might look at a Macro lens of around 100mm (Tamron has an excellent 90mm f/2.8 macro and Sigma has an excellent 105mm f/2.8 macro), those lenses are sharp, sharp, sharp and can do pretty well pulling double-duty as portrait lenses if you want to try that.

You can safely ignore the 50-70mm gap.
I would spend your money on a 430EX speedlight flash before buying a new lens. Photography is all about working with light, so why not upgrade the tools you use to make it, now that you have good ones to capture it?

ah yes. i've been looking at flashes... the question is.. is the 580 that much better than the 430? it appears the 430 is still quite popular...

edit: i see the 430 is a relative new flash.... goes to show how much i know!!! 🙂

woot woot... decided on the 430EX after all 🙂 and got a sto-fen omnibounce as well

The Sto-fen diffusion dome will serve you well.

The only things the 580EX offers over the 430EX are more power and master control for wireless flash.
If you ever want wireless flash, you can buy it then. You shouldn't need more power than a 430EX.

Tip: since the 430EX has a swivel head, learn to use it. Often a better technique than using the diffusion dome is to point the flash so it will bounce off a wall or ceiling to get to your subject. This creates a soft light and natural-looking shadows.

In summary: it's digital, so each additional exposure costs nothing more than time. Play with it.

i think my next lens (next month? december as a gift?) will be either the 85mm f/1.2 or 135mm f/2.0.

I just got a 430EX for my birthday and it seems pretty nice! I have been looking at the EF 60mm f/2.8 and the EF 50 f/1.4 as well.
