P965 to P35 a giant leap for $200.00?

Hi,

I've got a Gigabyte P965 DQ6 v3.3. On the way is a new 8800GT OC. I've been looking at upgrading my mainboard to a P35 similar to the enthusiast board I have now but would it really be worth it? I don't want a vanilla cheapo P35 because I use alot of those enthusiast features - it would be something like Abit IP35 Pro to get.

There's nothing wrong with my mainboard but I know there's a memory controler speed advantage thing.

Links welcome. Thanks

If you have money to burn. I would ebay your old board first and place a minimum price on it. Otherwise, if you don't want to use penryn, then keep your old board and forget about it.

Very good point on the new Intel processor and good advice. Now I will research Penryn a bit more and see how worthwhile it will be for my games. I've got just an E6600 right now. Problem is Intel is coming out with new processors yearly it seems. Aren't some of the higher end P965 supposed to be able to run Pemryn with a BIOS update? I thought an Anandtech reviewer said that in a recent article.

Not meaning to repost things from other threads, but check out the Asus P5K Deluxe/WI-FI AP from ClubMac for $142 (+ free shipping after rebate).

I ordered one to upgrade my HTPC from a AMD socket 339 to an Intel platform. I intend to put my E6600 onto this system, and leave upgrade path to quad core penryn for the future (since I got screwed with socket AM2 coming out 6 months after I picked up this board and all new AMD chips moving to that one with only leaving me with no real upgrade path on that system, only 2 CPU's (aside from opterons) are even available for me to upgrade to and they cost an arm and a leg because AMD didn't cut their prices like they did with the AM2 chips in the price war with Intel).

But it was necessary to move platforms for performance anyway ...hopefully you Ebay that AM2 hardware already if you have no use for it. I can not seem to get myself to sell my old gear and I bet there's alot of people like that - I get attatched to it!

If you have no use for it shoot it out into Ebay like oldie suggested to me.

One thing on that ASUS it the Wi-Fi ..stands out so far and a nice feature. I've got to look closer at the board though. The ABIT IT35 Pro is just 164.00 after rebates at Newegg.
