P965 motherboard price drop after p35 launch?

I've read that intel will drop the price for their P965 chipsets after the launch of their p35 chipset. I'm wondering if they've done this historically, and what kind of a change in p965 MB prices might occur.

Should I buy now or wait until after the official launch 6/4?

Thanks

Not necessarily. Until Intel changes to a new socket design, prices probably won't change that much.

intel will probably drop the price it sells the p965 chips to MB manufacturers, but chances are they have already done that as they are transitioning to p35 and new MBs are already hitting distributor pipeline. The real question is when will retail vendors receive the new p35 boards and start discounting the p965 boards to make room in inventory. So it all kinda depends on who you intend to buy from.

Remember MB manufacturers may stop producing certain 965 MBs if the p35 performs way better and is more compatible with other hardware(i.e. ram). Therefore scarcity could rise along with price.

The prices have already dropped for the P965 to the manufacturers. Expect to see further price reductions on P965 boards over the next couple of months. Intel will phase out P965 and 945P on an accelerated schedule, how long it will remain is a guess at this point. I do have the feeling after speaking with Intel that it will be sooner rather than later. I would not hesitate to say that P965 probably is gone within a year, 945P within six months.
