1. Which of the following are compatible with
CORSAIR XMS2 2 x 1GB 240-Pin Unbuffered DDR2 800 SDRAM Dual Channel Kit (5-5-5-12/1.9V):
- ASUS P5B
- Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3
- Intel BOXDP965LTCK
EDIT:ASUS P5B, Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 Intel BOXDP965LTCK unverified
2. Which of those MBs are only compatible with the above mentioned 1.9V RAM when <1.8V RAM is available to set the BIOS settings right?
EDIT:ASUS P5B, Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 Intel BOXDP965LTCK unverified

Well aint that just great, ordered me some OCZ ddr2-800 ram.

I knew i shoulda waited instead of jumping on the sale price.

EDIT.

Its kinda stupid to have support for DDR2-800mhz @ 1.8v ram when the majority of ddr2800 ram requires more than 1.8v.

Pretty damned annoying.

Actually, its still difficult to find DDR400 modules > 512MB that do not require more than 2.5V, unless you buy genuine modules from 1st tier DRAM manufacturers (Micron/Crucial, Infineon/Qimonda, Samsung, Hynix, etc) as opposed to 2nd and 3rd tier module assemblers and marketers (Kingston, PNY, OCZ, Corsair, etc.).

Most or all the major 1st Tier DRAM manufacturers have 1GB DDR2-800 PC6400 modules that are JEDEC standard 1.8V ± 0.1V. e.g. Crucial CT12864AA80E or Samsung M378T2953CZx-CE7

Unfortunately for me i guess i rarely if ever see crucial modules being sold in Canada.

Besides i was under the impression that most of these RAM companies got their chips from those tier 1 chip manufacturers.

From what I gather, the Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 will support specific modules even though they need over 1.8V.

http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/FileList/Mem...ort/motherboard_memory_ga-965p-ds3.pdf

Can anyone confirm if these modules will work out of the box, or if a BIOS flash is required.

I've already bought some 2x1GB Corsair XMS2-6400 (1.9V), and am looking for a cheap(ish) p965 motherboard to get me running until there are more chipsets out there from ATI and nVidia.

I have the same RAM. Your PDF doesn't list that kit though!

In one of the GigaByte DS3 Newegg reviews, Jim writes:

"This motherboard, out of the box, will only recognize RAM that can run on 1.8 volts. If your RAM does not work at 1.8 volts, you will need to either get different RAM or borrow some that does, change the BIOS to provide more volts, and then put back in your >1.8v RAM."

The label on the DIMM says "CM2X1024-6400" is this really different from the "CM2X1024-6400C4" on the pdf?

They get them from where ever there is a large supply of cheap commodity grade DRAM, hence the voltage requirements significantly above JEDEC specs.

You'll find out when I get my P5B board and TWIN2X1024-5400C4 (675mhz 4-4-4-12 1.9v) the pdf manual says nothing about only 1.8v allowed, says some bs about x16 and 128mb chips not allowed (x16=16 total chips?). P5B allows vdimm to 2.1v. I should build it by august 10th. Newegg reviews have no negative comments on 1.9v corsairs nor the P5B. Corsair ram also plays nice with the picky am2 boards, corsair seems reliable....hopefully.
Oh yea and the P5B is listed on their configurator too.

Do you have the 5-5-5-12? If so, then it's not listed. I think DS3/P5B will eat it though. The question is: Do you need =<1.8V to increase vDIMM, before you can use 1.9V or will DS3/P5B get into the BIOS with 1.9V right away...

Guys,
Just got my C2D system together with the Gigabyte 965 DS3 and 2 gigs o' corsair XMS2 800 Mhz (5-5-5-12 @ 1.9v) Yes, the board DOES boot with it in there but it times it to 5-5-5-18. So...after post simply go into BIOS, up the DIMM voltage to 1.9 and then manually enter the correct timings.
My board WILL NOT oc in BIOS but that is a separate issue with this board that a lot of people are having. It's a big myster what causes it but if you change the FBS in BIOS, when you reboot it is reset back. Hopefully we'll find an answer soon. Some people don't have this problem, but some (of us) do.

That's what I was waiting for! Big thanks for the info, Wolf.

Turn off USB Legacy Detect. If that does not work, disable C1E, EIST, and all of the other power saving items under the CPU setup, leave VT enabled. If that still fails to work, bet you have a 6800GT or something close to it. ;)

So the inability to OC on some DS3's is a PSU issue? There was speculation on another board that the RAM made a big difference in this.

I'm looking to get a DS3 along with some Patriot DDR2 667 Cas4 1.8V RAM based off its great timings/low voltage at 800 mhz in the Anand Conroe budget memory review. I hope (and expect) that this RAM has the headroom to OC with the DS3 nicely.

Ah, but how do you post without compatible ram?

EDIT: I see you say it boots but at looser timings. With my G.SKILL ram, it simply would not boot.

hmmm i sure hope so. Thought i was screwed!

nm, assumed u were talkin about the p5b deluxe..... i guess if it works on the lesser model it should work with the deluxe, by it i mean ocz ddr2800 ram.
