Just a bit of background info. I've been lifting for about 25 years - starting around the mid 80's when I was in my late teens. I'm what you call a mesomorph - which means genetically I am able to put on muscle and retain it quit easily, with out much effort. Muscle mass has never been an issue for me, however, my cardio was nothing to brag about.

A couple people at my gym went through some very good transformations following a DVD series called P90X. I borrowed this DVD from them about 4 months ago and thought I would give it a try. Oh my gosh! I've always been skeptical of things I see for sale on TV, and figured this P90X stuff was just like the rest of the trash being sold. Heck no. I followed this program to a T for 90 days and I'm in the best shape of my life in terms of muscle definition and cardiovascular. Because I wasn't doing any of my typical heavy lifts (bench, squat, snatch, cleans, etc) during this program, I did lose a tiny bit of muscle mass, but what remained was absolutely chiseled. I normally hover between 225-230lbs, but now at 210lbs, I actually have veins across my stomach in my ab area. I've been lean for a big guy, but never single digit bodyfat lean. All I can say is P90x is an amazing program if you stick to it.

Pretty much every fitness machine and program on the planet works...if you do it. My boss uses a Bowflex and his arms are like freaking rocks, he's really bulked up since using it! The problem isn't the machines or programs, it's people's motivation to use them on a consistent basis.

Congrats for being motivated enough to stick with it! Very few people are that determined.

Congrats on finishing. I'm about 10 days from finishing. You may want to log your pull-ups and push-ups in the challenge section just to add to the tally :)

I'm coming from the opposite end of the spectrum. I've been an avid runner for years always trying to get faster. Decided to give P90X a shot. What I hated most was following the eating guide. As a matter of fact, I couldn't stick to it because I was marathon training at the same time, but once I was done with the marathon, I stuck with the eating plan, increased the weights, and I am one happy camper with the results. It's weird that I actually have lost about 3 lbs since the marathon, going from 135 to 132, but I'm actually a little thicker and more muscular.
