P90 running slow on rc5 (dont laugh).

I got another puter up and running with Klinux!!! (p90) but it only does about 41kkeys/sec. Does that sound normal? I know the k5 90 is better at running rc5 but it is cracking 249kkeys/sec which seems WAY higher. Any input?

he he .. you may have set a record... I have a P133 that has been running it for the last 662 days non stop .. it is not fast but it
is steady

No 41 kkeys/sec is way off what a P90 can do.

Only thing I can think of is that Klinux is not working efficiently by selecting the wrong type of core (if Linux client does this). Otherwise I can't think of what could cause it.

That seems to be about a third the speed the Speed Page says. How much memory does it have?

And Dale, no, that's not a record. I have a 486sx 25MHz cracking randoms and a 486/66 running at 8MHz! :Q (the latter has a turbo switch problem on the motherboard.)

Maybe it's a Klinux record, though.

lol a P90?

I tested it out on a 486 SX33, and after 10 min I came back and saw nothing.
After restarting it, I got a R on the screen. lol That's SLOW! 😀

What version did you use?
It should be a 2.3 or 2.4

Just in case I had the wrong version. I made another Klinux disk with 2.4d and came up with 41kkeys/sec again. I had the same problem with this about a year ago on 133 laptop running win95. Got only about 48kkeys/sec from that. This has got me stumped.

Yeah, but it should be doing 351 KNodes/sec. 🙁

Feel like trying the DOS client?

I think RC was the one that told me that ORG gets better results with the 462 client under Linux.

I'm using the 463 client for Klinux.

You might need to let it run all night, and check it again in the morning.
The client needs to get warmed up to start putting out max blocks.

Everytime I restart the client, it'll start out slow, and gradualy increase it's speed after doing some blocks.

I have had it running since this morning with the exact same output. I am sure it is not Klinux. I think the stats are wrong for old socket 5 pentiums. Does anyone else out there have a p90 running that they can confirm stats with? Maybe it is a bios option problem? (hehe lot of work for a p90 but every block counts 😀)

Thanks TooCool! Your info convinced me to keep looking and it turned out it is the old pentium motherboard with a SiS chipset. I put the p90 in the motherboard that my k5 was in and it hit right about 126kkeys/sec. When I put the k5 in the motherboard I had the p90 in it came up as a amd dx4 100! LOL. Now that I know the problem I can scrounge up another motherboard to run this p90 in. Thanks for all the quick responses.

I have a p-90 Runing the DOS client and I am getting 128 kkeys per second. There are other issues afoot with yours. Try the DOS client and see what you get.

Frankenputer- (love that nick)

I had been thinking about your problem and remembered that I had a P2-266 that would crack at exactly half the expected rate, and that the board was jumpered out for a 366. I corrected that and all was well. (Thanx Joe O)
I see that you have found that it was a similar situation with your mobo thinking that it had a K5 in the slot, but the computer would run anyway.

If you need a mobo for your P90, perhaps another TA member has one to spare and can send it to you. Is it an AT style that you need?
