brand new. everything is plugged in, leds on, fans spinning but no BIOS and POST start up. it didn't come with a speaker so i don't think i could hear any beeps. the monitor, keyboard and mouse aren't getting signals

i am not sure if it was my imagination but i do think i heard ticking sounds and smelled a bit of smoke while installing the cpu and hsf with the mobo placed on the cardboard box cover that came with it. or it may just be the smell of new computer hardware.

the mobo led was on so i don't understand

i can’t trust any technical service with expensive parts, maybe if it was oem i wouldn’t care as much.

Sure all connectors are in place? 4pin CPU power, 24pin mobo power etc. Sure the CPU is correctly seated?

Try disconnect everything cept CPU and memory. See if you get any onboard display.

I have same motherboard but deluxe. Should i use 4pin or 8pin CPU power?
my system doesn't boot eighter. Get feiliure on memory.

Doesnt matter. If you get failure on memory try 1 stick at a time and RMA the bad.

nobody here mentioned any CPU or bios involved, but sounds like ship bios is too old for CPU model
Since you cant flash with newer CPU best bet is to order bios chip from ASUS online EStore ($15). Unless you say something on order it will come with latest.
If that doesnt work at least you will have xtra chip - lol
Note - chip only goes in one way

A Z77 board cant have an too old BIOS for any CPU.

I responded to you over on Overclockers. But it means your memory isn't supported, not fully seated in the slot, or it is just bad memory or slots. At least that is what I would think.

damn i chose G. Skill Ares 1600 16GB (2x8) because it was low profile and not too high for the Noctua NH-D14. i will try and fiddle around with it tomorrow i guess

and the A2 and B2 slots are the recommended ones for two sticks

did that, it flashed red for some time then reverted just to staying red. i cant see the cpu led because the hsf covers it, boot device led i believe was green and the flbk led wasn't on.

boot device led shouldn't light up any color but red, are you talking about the power led? Not sure what the flbk is? Do you have access to any other RAM you could test with? Have you tried testing each stick of RAM?

Well it seems your memory is not on the QVL list from ASUS, that might or might not be your problem. The memory I use with my Sabertooth isn't on their QVL either, but I had no problems with it. I am afraid the only way you can see whether it is your RAM or the board itself is to try using different RAM and see if it posts. Like I asked before though have you tried just one stick of Ram at a time?

Hopefully you just got a bad stick of RAM, make sure to try each one individually and try them in each slot. Just for the heck of it you can try clearing the CMOS too. Let me know how it goes for you.

UPDATE: solved- i tested the RAM one at a time both were ok, then tried both (properly reseating them this time, doh!) and the red DRAM led turned off the POST splashed on screen and the keyboard, mouse and monitor got their signals.

a big thank you to ShintaiDK and 5.0inaYota (thanks for being on TWO forums for me lol) and everyone else who had taken their time to reach out a helping hand.

The memory controller (or something in the chain) seems finicky on these boards. My First P8Z77-V worked fine for a few days with 2 sticks of memory, but gradually started failing after a few days. Another set of older Crucial sticks also gave issues. After 2 weeks, it would only post with 1 stick in one channel only. After a rather lengthy RMA process, the second board only works in dual channel mode after disabling one of the banks in BIOS. With this modification, it's all working fine, so I don't dare go through another frustrating RMA. Hopefully, TGBApowa, you have all of your issues solved.
