P8Z68-V for third monitor?

I have two monitors connected to my 570 GTX, and I'd like to add a 3rd without having to buy a second video card.

A while ago, I thought I might have read something about changing a setting in the BIOS that enables the onboard video even though there is a video card being used. Can't find the article/post for the life of me!

Any idea if this is possible? Thanks!

I think you are talking about Virtu, a feature of Z68 that lets you use IGP and GPU together. It can potentially let you use three or more monitors. Read you mobo manual or google how to use Virtu. You do have to do something in the BIOS as well as in the OS iirc. I have never personally done it myself so... sorry, no idea.

Share you findings, I myself would like to try it out, but could never find a step step process/guide to do it..

Pretty sure virtu allows you to utilise the CPUs built in GPU for specific tasks where it is more efficient/faster than a discrete card but I haven't come across anything that suggests that you could hook a monitor up to the mobos build in ports.

In fact when Virtu is used, the motherboard ports become default, i.e. one of them have to be used first, atleast one of them. I am guessing the second or third can from on GPU too...

it should be able to work, like any regular mobo igp + discrete card

onyl problem might be Intel IGP drivers not co-existing well with your discerte card dirvers, but inside W7, in should be fine

though some mobos disable IGP when they detect a discrete card


EDIT: this person below tried it and worked( igp + discrete for 3 monitors), but not without some driver problems/BSOD . post #12 for the result if you want to skip to it, including instructions for BIOS settings

Got it to work! But I'm not exactly sure how I did it.

I enabled multi-monitor in the BIOS, but it wouldn't recognize the third monitor in windows (even after a reboot). Then, the next morning it worked! (After a windows update and reboot I'm guessing).

I'm a happy camper now. Two 24" and one 30"

I use the IGP in my 2500k for a 3rd monitor in addition to the two powered directly by my 2x 4870x2 setup. It works well, the only quirk being that I have to have the IGP set as primary in the bios, so POST happens on my 3rd monitor, but my main monitor is set as primary in windows so there are no issues with games.

I used the AMD version of this when I had a second monitor hooked up. I enabled the IGP and connected the monitor, after that the second monitor acted like it was connected to my 5850.

Games, ect played just as well on the second monitor as the one connected to the 5850, as in the IGP was not used for rendering the game.

I also have a 2500k and P8X68V-Pro with a 580GTX to drive 3 monitors. The 580GTX drives both my primary and 2nd monitor while the 2500k drives the 3rd monitor. My set-up is able to post to my primary monitor. Everything was setup in Win7.
