P8P67 Standard with 2500K DOES NOT ALLOW MULTIPLIER OCing ** Update** Possibly fixed

Yep. FINALLY got my new rig built. Fired up perfectly the first time. UEFI BIOS looks OK. However, the system behaves exactly like it has an i5 2500 in it, not a 2500K. It WILL NOT allow a multiplier over 33. The only way to run this board as it now stands is to accept the turbo default, which is 39, and the board automatically raises the BCLK to 103.

The BIOS appears to be quite old... it is version "0402" which isn't even on the Asus Web site for BIOS downloads. Kinda ticks me off. I've downloaded the BIOS 1053 for this board and will install it when I am next in physical proximity to the new machine (it is in my commuter room near work, which is 120 miles away from me).

So do you think the BIOS update will fix this problem of not being able to overclock AT ALL? That is the situation I'm faced with at this point. The system behaves exactly as though like I got an i5 2400 or i5 2500 non-K chip.

Has anyone else seen this?

I fixed your title for you

Update the bios.

Then go to advanced options and you will see something like CPU ratio. Set it for each core to whatever you desire (say 44). Also change the voltage (on the same screen)

Think that'll solve it? Can't believe Asus would release a BIOS for this platform without checking to make sure K-series chips worked on it.

Yeah, I found out the hard way that at present, the Advanced UEFI section, with CPU Ratio, simply WILL NOT let me go beyond 33. Not only that - it forces a BCLK of 103!

The BIOS works fine for K Series processors, though you should update.

How exactly did you try to raise the multiplier? did you use the + - keys?

Perhaps I'm a bit derp, but I believe all of the asus boards overclock via turbo currently.

Yep. Absolutely no effect. Strangely, I can enter any value I want in the CPU Ratio field - it just won't be accepted by the system and is kept at the the default 33. If it's a BIOS flaw, it's a pretty obvious one.

Have you updated the BIOS yet?

FYI I set up my wife's rig with the P8P67 and 2500K, and it overclocks just fine. I updated to the latest beta UEFI BIOS from their site.

Mine worked fine as well. You do know that the overclocking settings you want to be using are under the A.I. tuner menu right? The other menu that lists cpu settings does top out at a 33 multi, but the turbo multiplier goes up to 57 or thereabouts.

The 'k' series use turbo bins as the unlocked multi and for some weird reason it seems Asus disable access to turbo when EIST is disabled. So have you by any chance disabled EIST? If so try enabling it then you will need to overclock via turbo boost.

Thanks for the updates and tips guys. I'll be able to flash the BIOS on the system on Monday evening after work. Yeah, I checked the AI section and it wasn't obvious... but thanks everyone!

I HAVE to check that again... after updating, of course. The EZ Flash utility in the BIOS is the way to go.
