Greetings,

While building my system a few months ago, I learned heaps by "studying" on the forum. A few months on, while really loving my build, one question remains as a problem crops its head every couple weeks or so.

About every two weeks, at boot time, I get an American Megatrends screen saying "Overclocking Failed". The odd thing is that I am not aware that the system is trying to overclock.

When this happens, I go to BIOS / Advanced / Tools and load my default profile, which is just a copy of the default profile with a couple adjustments for the hard drive.

Would any of you have an idea of where in the BIOS or the ASUS tools I might have gone wrong and told the system to try strange things behind my back every once in a while? :)

With gratitude,
Wishing you all a beautiful day

have you got your TPU switch on the mobo in the on posistion? Check your manual for its location but if you aren't overclocking it should be turned off.

I've seen "overclocking failed" when no overclocking was being done. I think it's a default message when the BIOS realises that it has its knickers in a twist.

I would probably try resetting the CMOS and reinstating BIOS settings manually to see if that helps (there could be some bizarre issue with loading a profile). If that doesn't help, you could try replacing the battery.

I assume the machine doesn't do anything dodgy like freeze up before this BIOS problem happens.

Yeah, o/clocking failed is a generic message, but usually means RAM. Standard on the chipset is 1066 1333 and 1600. If you look in your manual the other speeds over that say (O.C.) after their number

Since you are running dominator you are prob pretty high on the scale (you did not specify)
So the first thing you must do is find XMP profile in bios and set enabled. If you download the P8P67 manual from ASUS in pdf form you can do a search for XMP and find it immediately. If that still doesnt work, you can look in the manual also for instructions of using the mem OK button. It will mess around trying to find a good speed/voltage for RAM, and will prob declock the RAM a bit if you are on the edge.

Fwiw 4 sticks in a single 16GB pak are guaranteed to run well, but 2 paks of 8GB might not be suitable for ea other.

Finally opened the box today and turned off the TPU. We'll see how we go.

Thanks again, and wishing you all a fun end of the year.
