Hi,
I'm using P6BAP-Me motherboard, recently was upgrade my SDRAM form 64MB (100) to 256MB (133) unfortunately the 256MB only detected half the RAM size (128MB) + 64MB, How to turn the 256MB RAM to be use in this motherboard?

I also trying to upgrade from Win Me to Win XP, but there is an message "missing operting system" appear when reboot the system after the WinXp CD copy to hard disk? Can some one help me?

Sounds like the memory stick (the 256 one) is high density and the chipset wont see all of it.
You could try it in another slot..Im guessing there are memory chips on only 1 side of the stick, right?

Installing XP onto a machine with 192mb ram is bad, doable, but bad.
Did you set the boot order in the BIOS :> CDRom #1, Hard Drive #2, Floppy #3

And you really dont want to carry over all the problems from WinMe and do an upgrade to XP.
You should do a clean, full install of XP, you should be able to boot off the XP CD and then choose new installation and it will ask for your Me CD

What a Amazing reply!!!

I have set Boot order from CDRom #1, Hard Drive #2, Floppy #3.

I have even try to format the hard disk and start with new installation, after copy the content of CD and machine reboot then having message 'missing operting system'. Attached my motherboard type. The details of the motherboard can be found at http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.aspx?i=1226&p=2

I also try to plag the RAM to other slot but still same. I do not really understand this "Im guessing there are memory chips on only 1 side of the stick, right?" statement. Did I need to set the jumper to fully use of 256MB? How to do this, any way to control at Bios C-mos? Pls help

Thanks for quick respond.

No Way, in some chipsets the maximum amount of memory per chip is 32mb, if your modules have 64mb or more in the same pack of chip, the chipset will not recognize the rest above.
Try to find another memory with at least 8 chips.

A quick check with Crucial shows your mobo can only handle 128mb sticks.

So your out of luck using all 256mb on that 1 stick.

As for the hard drive problem, besides formatting the drive during a new install, have you deleted the partitions (all of them) that the install sees?

Hi,

Yes I have deleted the partition of C before installing win Xp. But partition on D drive does not delete as my data is located there. Do I need to delete partition on D as well and try to reinstall again? Is this can work? Pls advice.

Today I have try using other Harddisk whick preinstall with WinXP and put to this system. During boot it promt to select Start normal / save mode view, when select either mode the system still restart again and again. Is this mean my system hardware can't support WinXp?
