*** Update. The systems functions fine with a different power supply. The motherboard seems to function fine. ***

This board is giving me a lot of headaches. First a component list.
-P67A-UD3
-2500K
-Seasonic S12D 750W
-ATI 4870 1GB
-GSkill Ripjaw DDR3 1333 8G
-Kingston 64G ssd

WALL OF TEXT ALLERT

Alright, the ssd and the 4870 were old and swapped over from a different system. The system originally booted up just fine, i went right into the bios and bumped the voltage up 1 point and set a mild overclock. Just under 4GHz, the system booted up fine, however i missed the option to boot from a CD to load up windows 7 and the computer started to load from the old windows 7 installation. I did a hard shut down and tried to reboot. The computer would turn on for a split second and shut down.

I unplugged everything and cleared the CMOS, this caused it to boot and i got a corrupt BIOS message and it loaded the backup and then shut down. After this the computer would only start for a split second again. Clearing the CMOS once again finally got it to boot. When it finally did boot the bios was back at factory settings and that is where i have left it for now. I loaded up windows 7 and it installed fine.

However, everytime the computer is shut down it requires what i have dubbed the "clear CMOS" dance. This is unplugging power, shorting the bins, pressing the power button with the power supply not plugged in etc. The computer will do multiple split second power ups. Praying to the computer gods is required to get it to power up completely which is usually accompanied by a menu to select "default boot or last known successful settings".

Is this a dead board? Should i be RMAing? I noticed that there is a new bios out which i will try flashing after work to see if this fixes anything, however i also understand that the @bios program bundles with the motherboard doesn't work and requires a new version.

Any one else expierencing the same problem?

I'm a complete noob to building, but why would you set up a voltage increase and OC right away before even loading Windows and making sure the thing runs correctly at stock settings?

Mostly due to stupidity! It did post fine and temps were extremely cool with the noctua heatsink in the bios.

try the new bios. you are correct, you need the new @bios or flash from the bios itself with a USB drive. I didn't know there was a new one, I'm still using the beta one from Jan 11th.

Are you loading factory defaults after clearing the CMOS? if you are then maybe the new bios will work.

I downloaded the newest non-beta driver and flashed it. It powered down and once again would not start up. You can hear the power supply click on and the fans start to spin for about half a second. After unpluging the power and clearing the CMOS, plugging it back in and hitting power (repeat 15-20 times, i finally got it to boot. I think this board is going back.

I had the same trouble with my board (in sig). Flashed the BIOS to F6 with @BIOS software, loaded setup defaults, tried to make onboard video primary - no go, it always boots with PEG as primary. And after a few restarts, when I've tried to enter BIOS settings, it showed BIOS menu but keyboard was dead. The only thing I could have done was resetting. And I had the same problem as the OP, power-up / power-down - indefinately.

I've cleared the CMOS, turned onboard video as primary - and it works. Strange huh. Oh, for the record, HD2000 and GTX460 are working at the same time, I can setup extended desktop :)

Load Opt. defaults and do nothing. Start using your system until everything is stable.
What is your current BIOS version?

After some trouble shooting my problems are not motherboard related. At first i thought it was my aging 4870 since when i removed that it would boot and give me the missing video beep code.

I had a 4670 from a htpc which i swapped in and then it failed to start up again. So i grabbed an old Ultra 750W power supply that i had laying around and plugged it in. The computer starts up everytime without fail and no problems what so ever. I also tried a Antec 350W power supply which boots the computer without problem. (with the 4670)

So in conclusion it appears that my brand new Seasonic S12D 750W power supply is broken in some unusual way. When the system has been sitting for a LONG time with the power supply unplugged it will start up, i was even able to stress test the system using prime95 with the seasonic when i could actually get it to start. However if it has been running it simply won't start again.

Very bizarre problem with the Seasonic.
One thing I could add, I have just recently started having troubles with stability with my i7/P55A-UD4P setup and I have swapped out the S-12 600 for a Corsair AX750 and I have not had any stability troubles since. The PSU is a few years old now but very strange indeed.

Yeah it was honestly the last thing i expected. The odd time that i could get it to boot i could stress test with no problems, however after being on for a bit there is no way that it would re-start. Already got the RMA approved so hopefully the new one works better.

So, it'll power the pc up when the ps is stone cold but refuses to do a hot reboot?

Sounds like something's overheating enough during use to refuse to repower.....thermal shutdown. Could simply be a bad cap or something that's supposed to be on a heatsink isn't. RMA it.
