would it be better to use on add on NIC like this Newegg.com - Intel EXPI9301CTBLK 10/ 100/ 1000Mbps PCI-Express Network Adapter 1 x RJ45

or go with the onboard for gaming?
 
Onboard is fine. CPU usage is very low (~1% average) and even if the Intel card is faster you wouldn't notice a difference during online play.
