P67 + IVB Pentiums?

Scored a couple of cheap ($39.90 - $40 MIR ) MSI P67A-G43-B3s yesterday.
Fired right up with a Pentium G645 and updated the mobo firmware (supposedly supports IVB).

Drop in the cheap Pentium G2020s that I got at MicroCenter and I just get bootloops (no POST screen actually appears).

Plug the G645 back in and it's perfectly fine. Anyone experience this with P67 mobos?

They phased the P67 chipset out, one reason is because the early revisions had a SATA II bug that could wipe out your hard drive. Secondly, some of the 8000 chipsets (H61/67/P67) don't support Ivy Bridge out of the box. Best thing to do is check the MSI website for a BIOS update, see if it supports Ivy Bridge, and then use the G645 to flash the BIOS update.

If MSI offers it, that will solve your issue.

Unfortunately, that's exactly what I have already done
MSI's site states support for the IVB Celerons, so it shouldn't be a stretch for it to work with IVB Pentiums.

The B-3 revision is the "fixed" version.
If the G645 works I would expect the G860 to function.
G2020 $64, G860 $64.84 on amazon
I believe the G860 slightly outperforms the G2020.

Yeah, but G860 is 32nm and he wants the 22nm G2020 to work.

And I don't blame the man, those Micro Center prices are too good!

OP, I'm sorry to say but if MSI doesn't officially support IVB Pentiums, it's likely for good reason. Perhaps they will offer another update in the future. Try e-mailing them.

PS: I'm looking to buy/trade for a G645, if you want to help an AT bro out.

There is no way your motherboard will work with Ivy E chips.

Ivy Bridge E is socket 2011 ,,,,,, If you have that, then its a slap on upgrade. gl

Bumping this thread. Like an idiot, I updated the BIOS, but not the ME component, so neither the G2020 nor 3570K I tried worked.

Just did the full update this morning (launched within windows on a G645). Now it works perfectly fine with BOTH the G2020 and 3570K, plus I get MSI's shiny UEFI interface from their newer boards to boot!

The 3570K is sitting pretty at 4.4GHz at pretty much the same settings as when it was on my Gigabyte Z77X-UD3H. Definitely a bargain at -$0.10 for the board

The G2020 is on the CPU support list, so... makes sense. *shrug*
