From the article:
"In some cases, the Serial-ATA (SATA) ports within the chipsets may degrade over time, potentially impacting the performance or functionality of SATA-linked devices such as hard disk drives and DVD-drives."
I'd love to hear if anybody has specifics about the bolded parts. What cases exactly?
Will it affect the performance or the functionality...or did they really mean it can affect the performance AND/OR the functionality? The way it's worded now makes it sound like if affected, your drive will either be slowed down or it will malfunction but not both. Nor do they state the amount of time over which noticeable degradation may occur. Why don't they just come out and say exactly what the problem is? Though we already suspect that it has something to do with the use of cheese as a semiconductor material in the manufacture of these devices.
