Hi,

recently i bought a new PC and i loaded XP64 on it
it installed fine without me having to install 3rd party SATA drivers the computer found my hard drive in the sata 1 slot no problem. MY friend got the same computer AS me and using the same hard drive and every thing. the board will not detect his drive in sata 1 only the ez raid slots. the difference is that i installed from a formated harddrive completly empty. His hard drive has XP32 on it and he wants win setup to format it and install XP64 but the computer will not detect it, this should not happen? it's the same computer down to the heat sink it's like the two computers have developed personalities and one is the evil twin ;-)

but i;m at a loss to explaijn his really cause the DVD drives are detected in sata 1 on his PC, i'm guess he just needs to format his drive but Why wouls having a clear drive matter should it not detect it anyway

any ideas?

Depends on what cd you are using to install. XP, and XPsp1 discs do NOT support SATA and you have to load the drivers from a floppy, however a windows xp sp2 cd DOES support sata and you will not need to load the 3rd party drivers.

Is that what you are asking? I am having a little trouble making heads or tails of your post ;)
