P5WD2-E Premium [Memory Question]

In this board there are 4 DIMM slots as

Channel Sockets
Channel A Dimm A1 and Dimm A2
Channel B Dimm B1 and Dimm B2

Both Dimm A1 and A2 are together and Dimm B1 and B2 are the other 2 Memory Slots

I thought the DDR2 I have to install are like 1 in Dimm AI [in channel A] while another DIMM in Channel B s DIMM B1. But the manuals say I have to install it together meaning 2 1gb DDR 667 side by side ? Am I reading wrong? As in Gigabyte the Yellow and yellow goes together but this is a little confusing. Can someone share their wisdom.
 
I have the p5wd2 premium, not the E, but the colors go together. I can clearly rember looking at that page in the manual and thinking "WHAT".

Anyway, the colors go together, the manual is just not very clear.
