Hi
Ive got a ASUS P5W DH mobo with onboard 7.1 sound.
now in my raeltek audio manager thing when i've plugged everything in and test it it works 100% perfect. However when i play a game such as CS:S sound comes out of all my speakers (5.1 headphones and 5.1 speakers) regardless of where the sound is comming from. This kind of defeats the purpose of having 5.1 sound dosnt it. CS;S even has a in game test where it says "front left" "rear right" etc etc and every speaker says it.

I've been told that maybe updating the driver would help..... does anyone know what one i need, im unsure of which one to get. A link would be greatly appreciated. Also if you have any other ideas of what my problem maybe, please let me know :D

cheers

How are you connecting to the audio? In other words, are you using 7.1 analog input/outputs (a bunch a seperate stereo-mini jacks) or are you using a single digital output (TOSHLINK, optical, coaxial)?

If you are using a digital connection, your problem is simple. Unless you are sending the signal in a Dolby Digital, or DTS stream, all audio will be in stereo or mono over a digital connection. Only those streams will put the audio into surround sound. This is why most HTPC (Home Theater PC) uses use cards like the HDA Mystique-X or X-Plosion which do Dolby Digital Live encoding and/or DTS Live encoding (in other words, they take any audio signal from the computer and encode it on the fly into a Dolby Digital or DTS stream signal so your games will now also be listenable from the surround sound system that most home theaters have).

well ive got my speakers and headphones running into a dual output thingy but even if i plug jsut the speakers directly into the PC it still does teh same thing.

i just tested it with
dolby pro logic xII - sound comes from all speakers.
dolby virtual speaker - sound comes from all speakers.
dolby digital live - no sound at all.

there is one thing though.
when i plug my jacks in it asks me what one ive plugged in. now the front and centre one were correct but with teh rear ones when i clicked 'rear" id get no sound from them but when i selected "side speakers" i get sound from them and when i test it in the program where it plays sounds in a circle it does it perfectly, all speakers function fine EXCEPT for in games.
