P5W DH Deluxe/E6300/CoolerMaster 550W: PSU problem?

I'm not sure how to diagnose a power supply problem.

Freshly-installed CoolerMaster 550W. All connections made to bring system up.

Green light shows on motherboard when I turn on the PSU.

Push power switch on case, the PSU glows/fan shudders for a fraction of a second, a light on one drive blinks, then nothing. PSU just sits there, no lights, no bad smells, though.

Other posts via Google mention bad PSU at this point, but how would I tell for sure? What minimum setup should get the PSU's fan to at least spin? If I unplug EVERYTHING but the motherboard, would I get some reaction from a functioning PSU?

Thanks...

Well, that'll do if the CoolerMaster forum doesn't validate me soon so I can ask there too.

Several stories of PSUs that refuse to do much more than make the green light glow, but no definative test seen.

After the big job of running all the wires through my case's tiny chimney, which I'll have to completely undo to get the PSU out, I should get more than just a pay-to-send-it-back out of them if it IS bad...

The CoolerMaster manual says "3. This power supply does not support ?5V for the motherboard for new ATX form factor operation.
Please update the BIOS setting of the motherboard."

http://www.coolermaster.com/installation_manual/Manual_550W.pdf

Page 2-40 of the P5W manual shows the -5V going to one of the pins.

Is anyone familiar with this discrepancy?...

CoolerMaster support said short green to black and the fan should spin, and it didn't.

RMA to be requested ASAP.

Motherboard BIOS now on order too, but I guess it'll be here 10 days before the replacement PSU...
