P5Q-E lost BIOS settings over night

I woke up this morning and my monitor was on for some reason. I go to check on it and its standing at POST !!! Its asking if I want to load default BIOS settings or enter setup. I entered and everything was back at default values and the clock was wrong. I booted into Windows and it recognized new hardware since it wasnt using AHCI anymore. I turned it off and now I'm at work pretty disgusted.

My only idea is that I just reinstalled the Six Engine crap a few days ago and changed some of the fan speeds to "Keep BIOS setting." Maybe this interfered with the BIOS? I also changed the registry to allow S3 sleep mode. I'm going to uninstall Six Engine and disable the S3 I guess.

Any other ideas? I'm gonna be stressing about this all day till I get home.

My first P5Q-E installed without a problem. I loaded the OS and some basic apps and had a working machine. During the install of everything, the machine must have rebooted 2 dozen times or more. I shut the machine down, went to bed, and planned on finishing up the next day.

The next day, I turned on the machine, it got to the windows boot screen and froze. I tried rebooting in safe mode, same thing. Got into the bios it all looked normal. I reset the bios, I pulled the battery, I set the bios jumper to reset. Nothing worked. I tried flashing the bios again but got a weird error message.

After a couple of days of trying, the board went back and I got a replacement. All is well now. It could be that your motherboard is dead or dying. I have no idea what killed mine overnight when the machine was turned off!!

Good luck!

What bios are you using? I am using 0704 and haven't had bios memory loss. All has behaved perfectly. There is an 0803 out but I am happy with 0704 so haven't tried it.

Were you 100% stable in your OC? The only time I have ever had any bios go to default is because of the wrong OC settings.

i wasnt running any OC, all the OC was stock. All I changed was fan speeds, AHCI, stuff like that. I'm using it right now and it seems OK, im just waiting for it to crap out again. If i had a gun to my head, I would guess the power supply is overstressed. I'm gonna get a new one in a few days and see what happens.

Power is very important. A memory and cpu voltage bump can sometimes make all the difference in the world between stability and instability. Most boards default ram voltage to 1.8v but bumping it to 2.00v is very safe as well as a slight bump in cpu voltage as long as you are comfortable with that.

I don't use that 6 engine crap or any other energy saving schemes in the bios, OS, or other. I solely use machines for performance.

The forums are filled with similar problems like these on 965, 975, P35, X38, X48. There are all sorts of users from experienced to beginners, but that doesn't figure into your equation does it? Blame it on platform stability...now was that "consumer" or "professional"....hmmm...never did get a mouthful from you on that classic description......

Well I just uninstalled six engine again, but then something struck me. Does it reset the mode when you uninstall it, or might you be stuck at the last mode you were at? I had it set at slowest quietest mode when I uninstalled it. How can I check?
