Alright, I sure hope someone's come across this before... When I got this board, I never bothered to check this until now.
Upon investigation today, I found that the nVidia Control Panel is reporting that my video card is running at x8 speeds ("Bus: PCI Express x8").
The SLI mode adapter between the PCIe slots is set to "Single Video Card". That means the "Single Video Card" arrow is pointing towards the SLI mode adapter slot. I thought maybe this was the problem (since in SLI mode, the slots become 8x/8x), but it doesn't look like it. I have no digital camera, so you'll have to trust me.
I do not have dual VGA cards. I have a single VGA card installed in the blue PCIe slot (closest to CPU). The black slot (furthest away) is empty. The VGA card I have is a Leadtek PX7950 GT TDH 256MB.
I'm using nVidia GeForce driver set 93.71, and nVidia Chipset driver set 8.43.
Anyone else seeing this, or have ideas on how to figure out what the deal is?
