Here are my system specs.

Asus P5K Vanilla (Bios 0603)
Intel E6420 (Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme Heatsink)
4x1gig (4gig) Buffalo FirestiX PC26400 DDR2
SPF BlueStorm 2 Power Supply
Seagate 7200.10 320gig SATA2 Hard Drive
Pioneer SATA DVDR
Liteon IDE DVD-Rom
Thermaltake Bach VX Tower

The painful P5K Vanilla Vdroop is really hurting my overclocks. I presently have my E6420 running at 3.4ghz stable but can't go higher and I'm convinced that the excessive P5K vdroop is to blame. I have seen this chip do over 3.6ghz seemingly stable but as I watch the voltages fall it then becomes unstable. Possibly it can go higher with more stable voltages.

I have Vcore set to 1.5V in the bios but see a vdroop which sends the voltage diving to just below default when the system is under load. Even with a power supply swap the issue remains.

I've decided to do the well documented P5K Vanilla Vdroop pencil mod but have a few questions before I do this.

1) If this mod isn't permanent how long can I expect the pencil markings to last without having to resort to a more permanent conductive solution?

2) Are there any short or long term issues regarding board stability and safety with this mod?

3) What experiences have others had with this mod?
