K the new rig i just built... is gettin on my nerves right now...

Everything seems fine in 2d land... once in 3d gaming... my Americasarmy 2.8.1 game will freeze the whole system within half an hour of play... The same freeze/crash happened when i tried to play The Lost Planet DX9 on XP...

By taking a guess... id say it looks like either the nVidia sucky 8series drivers not stable ( latest from nVidia site 158.22Whql... no driver corruption since i cleaned it with DriverCleaner before i installled it ) OOOOR maybe i dont have enough power for the gts and this new mobo/cpu.... but I doubt it.... Enermax 460W with a single 12v rail of 33Amps i think should be fine... though im using an adapter for the 6pin power connector for vidcard... and also adapter for 20 -> 24pin mobo connection ( adapter that came with the Power supply itself)

The system giving me the same crashes while gaming in stock cpu and gpu speeds... I tried to bring the cpu to 3.0ghz but no it didnt help either :) though cpu seems stable...

Looks like my fears coming true... coz i hesitated so much in gettin a nvidia specially 8 series card... knowing their driver situation... I thot they came out with new whql drivers a couple weeks ago... but the latest in their site shows March date... im confused. ATI OWNS! :) jk ANy ideas any1? I am so unlucky never had a trouble free new build... i thoughtt this was it untill i tried the gaming part..

PCI-e Frequency =103
vcore 1.375v
vmem 1.9v tried 2.0 and auto, same results
Temps cpu 40 idle... 55-60 full load (orthos max temp was 63C)
GPU temp 60C idle 68C load gaming... is this too much?

EDIT: another guess comes into mind... Maybe since im using the XP installation from my old MSI Neo2 plat system... u think I should format it? could that cause these problems? I did an XP repair after i had removed every single chipset and device drivers of my old mobo... then installed sp2 again then the p5k drivers and then the Nvidia drivers after i cleaned it with DriverCleaner anythin that was left from before.
Any ideas??

What is overclocked in your system right now?

Reset BIOS to default values and run the 4300 at it's stock speeds. As well as all memory timings and graphics card.

I mean, I have a brand new system. E6420, 2GB of DDR2, GTS 640. But my operating system is going on 4 years old now. I just put my old drive in the new system and installed Windows XP over it to maintain all my old progams. In other words, I never formatted. So if I have no probs after all that, what is different about yours? I have a 500W Antec PSU, but that Enermax 460 should push your system just fine. But if you o/c the snot out of your system, there is a chance that you will have problems, both from lack of power, and possible data corruption from sudden crashes or reboots.

I am using the latest WHQL Nvidia drivers. 158.22's.

1st when ever you do a major upgrade always do a fresh XP install. Driver/application conflict are major cause for crashes.
*I think you should do a fresh install and use older drivers.
* Don't overclock anything and run the game ... see if it crash
*Check your temp and see that are in safe level
Also i have seen these crashes before but they are mostly caused by ram.

Crash could be caused by :
# not enough power ... get a new PSU
# faulty Video card
# could be caused by faulty ram

Whaddya mean bump? Did you try what I suggested above? RESET BIOS to default values.

Reseat RAM and maybe even remove one stick at a time to test if memory is bad.

Also, check HERE and see if the memory you purchased is supported, or has been tested on your motherboard.

Reset BIOS to defaults

Format hard drive

Install Windows XP SP2

Install all latest motherboard drivers for chipset and all onboard devices.

Install Forceware 158.22

Install Americas Army

Let us know.

What do i mean bump ok... first u only asked if i was overclcoking... so i said im not overclcoking... then i asked for bump since thread was lost within 1 day and only saw 1 reply only and didnt realise u had edited ur message so dont get pissed... I dont need ur help if im bothering u.... I read anandtech forums for hobby not coz some1 owes me anything... anyways

I did try only defaults and i tried setting memory with its rated vmem 1.8-2.0 without touching other settings wwith manual latency settings.... I memtested the memory with the Vistas built in memory test.... so i canceled the ram... If ram was faulty then i wouldnt be able to play for 20-30 mins ... it'd crash within first minutes...
Its not first time building a system but whatever...
Yes i did go to Asus website before I came to anandtech anyways... thanks for sugestion, I got latest software n drivers for every device.... also tried EVGA latest drivers for vidcard... then tried Nvidias latest all same problem

Yes the os install can be the problem... and i have that planned when i have time to do it
Or not enough Power... hmm ur guesses happen to be the same as my guesses were...
Anyways Ima do some more testing tomorow... and see if now it actually is stable...

What seems like stable so far is these changes i made in bios:

Set PCIE Freq from 103 that i had before to 101.

I also set one the FSB voltage termination from Auto to 1.3 and the CPU PLL to 1.5

Also... I left the case window open for maybe more fresh air... donno if that affected... and then i played for like 2 hours without a crash... tomorow ill be off work and will do more testing... and will let u know...

Thnx
