Ok i just got my Asus P5k E wifi mobo and have some questions about options ive never seen before.


1) I have 3 Sata hard drives and 2 sata dvd burners. I usually set sata mode to enhanced and configure sata as ide. Should i keep it this way when i start putting this together or should i set them as AHCI?

2) For my sata dvd burners should i just keep everything auto or should i select a dma mode as ther are a lot to pick from

As to the first question, you have to install the ACHI drivers for the ICH8R chipset before you can use ACHI... that HAS to be done WHEN you install Windows, not later on. Otherwise, the only way the SATA HDDs will run is as IDE.

If you didn't go into the BIOS and select ACHI BEFORE installing the drivers at the F6 prompt when installing Windows, you don't have ACHI drivers installed. At this point you can, 1, re-install Windows or 2, try a Windows Repair by using the Windows install CD and select R at its second occasion and install the ACHI drivers at the F6 prompt.

Keep in mind, to install the ACHI drivers, you have to set the BIOS as ACHI FIRST. Then, install Windows or do the re-install...

Can't tell you what to do for the opticals... I just plugged my SATA opticals into SATA connectors and they worked just fine...
