Does anyone have this combination in working order? I'm on my second board and second card and still no luck...
Full Details:
If anyone can help me, I would be hugely appreciative
.
I am building two identical systems based off the following components:
1) P5K Deluxe (P35 chipset)
2) E6700 Core 2 Duo
3) EVGA 8800GTS 640 MB
4) ThermalTake 850W
5) Corsair Twin2x 2x1GB 6400C4
And eventually (when I can get the above to work) - I'll be adding a PCI-Express 3ware RAID 10 card with 4 500GB Seagate 7200.10 drives.
Everything is brand new. I put the first system together and booted. It would boot, things would be going on (drive clicks, keyboard flashes), but no video display. After 3 or 4 times trying to source (click the source button on the monitor) the Samsung flat panel DVI monitor, I actually got to view the post - it read that overclocking had failed and then would proceed with the rest of the post, it would hang after only a minute or two so I could only interact with the bios to review settings for short periods of time. After a hang I would disconnect power and leave it for a full minute before it would boot again.
I tried different power supplies, RAM, etc. Nothing would change the behaivior. Then it stopped having video output again. After numerous reboots I finally got a visible post and entered the bios, went to look on my other PC for a few things to try and when I came back the machine was off. I tried to reboot, and the lights flickered when I pressed the power button - seems like the board finally shorted itself out. It's dead - nothing happens besides the flicker the house lights with just the CPU on the board.
On to the second set of components...
I put this machine together step by step, CPU + RAM - booted fine, added Video card and got the post /video output problem again - but only once. It seemed to be working. I added a floppy drive and nothing - no boot, took out the floppy drive - no boot, removed everything and started over - booted again finally. Then when trying to boot again, the switch wouldn't work - nothing... tried a different switch - nothing... tried a different power supply - it worked. Then the second boot, the same thing - nothing happens when you push the switch. I switched back to the original power supply - everything booted again. Figured out that I can get one boot which after 1-2 minutes the machine will hang, then I have to disconnect power and wait 1 minute.
Things I've tried/double checked:
1) Yes, the extra 12V connector is in the motherboard.
2) Yes, all the power plugs are seated properly
3) Yes, the video card has enough Amps (30 Amps on the 12V rail) and yes, it's got power
4) No, haven't been able to upgrade the bios to 311 as I can't get an interactive machine long enough or a floppy drive connected
5) Yes, I've tried clearing the cmos
6) Yes, I've tried different powersupplies including different models and brands
7) Yes, I've swapped the memory and also tried only one stick
8) Yes, I've tried a different video card
I really feel like I must be doing something wrong, but I've built many computers and I just can't figure out what's going on in this case. The odds of getting multiple bad motherboards seems like a long shot.
Any ideas or suggestions? - I'll keep this thread going until posted resolution or I end up buying something else completely.
thanks in advance...
