I just received the board from Newegg today, installed Vista 64bit and went to update the BIOS to the current version before I got too far along in the build. I ran the ASUSUpdate utility to update the BIOS since it is too big to fit on a floppy and that turned out to be a big mistake. It wiped the old BIOS but did not flash the new one in and the Crash free seems to be worthless as I have tried everything in the manual to try and recover the BIOS. Anyone have any ideas how I can recover it or am I stuck trying to get an RMA from ASUS?

Edit: Newegg rocks! They took care of me on this with no hassle and if I am lucky I should have a new board tomorrow.

You have two options....

1,) RMA to NewEgg

2,) RMA to ASUS.....

I personally think that the first option makes the most sense....

Explain, and get them to cross ship

I feel your pain. A new board from Asus P5K-E came with BIOS 0703. I, as a matter of course, updated to 0806 and it would never board without first unplugging from the wall. A few days later I noticed an update BIOS 0901. After that the board did not boot at all! I don't know what Asus is doing right now but owners everywhere are trashing their boards.

I ordered a new P5K-E and let the bios alone. All is well...

The thing that really irks me with this is the only reason I even went with the ASUSUpdate utility instead of the standard bare bones floppy is because the BIOS files are now too big for floppies. I've used HP and Dell utilities to do BIOS updates on work machines from Windows with no issue and since ASUS has been offering this for years now I figured it would work as well. Big mistake on my part, this is the first time I have ever fried a BIOS so I guess I should consider myself lucky it took this long. Looking around on Newegg I see they have replaced motherboards for this exact issue so I will try them first and see what happens. The interesting thing is the machine power cycles on and off but it does not load the crash free BIOS either from the disk that came with the system nor from a FAT32 formatted USB drive, both of which the manual says should recover the BIOS in this situation.

you can also just order a bios chip from asus... as long as your board is a socketed bios chip... I've had to do this with my P5W DH Deluxe a couple of times... I've crapped my bios a couple of times doing the AsusUpdate Programs... now I just stay away from that program and do the E-Z bios update at boot up... I use USB drive... so much easier.

After this experience I will never use it again. Once I get up enough nerve to try and flash it again I will use either a CD or USB drive. I am posting from the new machine so Newegg really came through for me. What I ended up doing is getting an RMA for the dead board and purchasing an identical board. Once I made the purchase and gave her the order number she bumped the shipping to next day and waived all shipping charges. They will refund my CC for the full amount of the other board once they receive it. They will definitely get a glowing review after the way they handled this for me.

It is not socketed on this board, it has to go back to ASUS for reflashing.

When I got my P5K-Deluxe motherboard, the first thing I had to do was to update the BIOS so it could properly recognize my E6750. I did the update from within the BIOS using their Asus EZ Flash 2 utility with the BIOS files copied to a FAT32 formatted 256 MB USB pen. The flash went through trouble free. I was so happy I didn't even need to go through a boot CD or floppy or their semi crappy windows utility. ;)

I think their EZ Flash 2 utility is probably the best way to update the BIOS.
