I will use the P5E-VM in a Microfly SX6 case with an E8400 CPU.
I just have to choose my RAM (most components already ordered).
I don't intend to OC, probably not too wise in a tiny uATX case.

So my RAM (2x1GB DDR2-800) choices are Ballistix (BL2KIT12864AA804); Corsair XMS2 (TWIN2X2048-6400C4); GeIL (GX22GB6400UDCA).

I am kind of tending towards the Geil because I saw customer reviews saying that they got it running at 800MHz CAS 4 with 2V, while for the corsair it seems to run stable at 2.1V, and the ballistix at 2.2V. Considering the build will have limited airflow I was thinking that a lower voltage will translate to a lower temp, and therefore lower risk of the RAMs going bad after a while. Am I right to take this into consideration?

Only concern with Geil is that it's not listed among tested RAMs at the Asus website ... I know that probably doesn't mean much, but I didn't see any user mentioning combining the 2. Should I even give that a second thought?

I guess in a few words, my question is Geil or something else? :p

Thanxs

So I shouldn't worry about whatever voltage is needed to run at 800MHz - CAS 4? No long term effects?
Just get the cheaper quality DDR2 800 rated for CAS 4?

thanx for the reply

Yeah. You shouldn't worry. Just get the cheapest ones. Get the more expensive ones only when you choose to overclock.

I'm probably gonna go with the ballistix tracer.
The XMS2 are for $29 AR, Ballistix for $25 AR, and Tracer for $31 AR. All with free shipping @ the egg. $6 over the lowest price for the wow factor with the tracers seems nice :p

I feel so ashamed :p, my friend was making fun of me this morning as I was looking thru reviews and trying to decide; he said to get the RAMs that light up the best, who cares about performance <sarcasm> ... he's gonna laugh at me when I end up with the tracers :D. But I have an excuse, the SX6 microfly has a window, I should have something flashy on the inside :D

Thanx for your help ... very much appreciated :)

I can confirm from my own personal experience:
Ballistix Tracer >>> OCZ Gold what-ever!

It's just nice to buy a kit of DDR2-800, only to find out that the SPD shows DDR2-1000 at 2.2V :D

Hello Everyone,

I wanted to make a new gaming machine and have it so I can take it to Lan Parties I been going to latley so I chose the P5E-VM HDMI board my picking for games seems very limited on a MicroATX.

I bought from New Egg first one I got i tried my E6550 chip not post, took my MAIN pc apart (told self it needed cleaned) and took out my E6850 and tested it no post, both times with this memory I have OCZ26672048ELDCGE-K. Got alittle ****ed off and sent it back to new egg same time ordered another one got it overnighted they gave me 15 off since i was going to cancel order.

Next day got the motherboard I tried installing same damn thing.. said ok time to look see if people having same issue then I seen on new egg in reviews ( needs a legacy processor to flash bios) so i did just that asked a friend if i could borrow his D950 3.4 GHz, 4MB, 800MHz FSB, LGA 775 processor. Guess what it posted! I thought awesome I flashed bios ( board is rev 1.00g with bios 0303 when I got it)
Tried the following bios 0405, nope will not post with either core 2 duo chip installed, tried 0505 newest one nothing same thing. I read another post said memory could be the problem.
Board says support 667mhz but as always OCZ is never in manual.

What memory will work on this if i need to buy memory? Hell what other MicroATX board is a gamer I am looking for information I would REALLY love to use my E6550 on this motherboard I see people all over forums using the Q6600 even though I dont want it I might even upgrade to that since I need to make a computer for friend he get stuck with a E6550. Please Help I am going insane trying to find a resolution I was even going to give my E6550 and trade with friend since the D950 works np but his board wont support it :"(

I went to my brother in law's pc from Dell took his memory out and tried it.

Hynix 1 gbb 2rx8 PC2-5300U-555-12 HYMP512U64CP8-Y5 AB-C says on the chip IT posted with the E6550 installed FIRST time ever it posted with a FSB 1333mhz chip installed.

I don't think it is the processors i have tested BOTH in my ASUS P5K Deluxe motherboard.

Guess people don't know what the problem is
Oh yes its the gold memory I been using to test first. It will NOT post with a Core 2 Duo Chip installed but posts fine with the D950.

As you can tell I am getting a little desperate I need to get a computer up and running.

PLEASE SOMEONE HELP
** Praying for a SOLUTION **
