P5B-E BIOS update gone bad

KK

Lifer
I just did the windows bios update utility and choose the 1002 bios. It seemed to update just fine. when it got done, it said that I needed to reboot. I rebooted and now I don't get nothing, the drive light indicator comes on for about 10 seconds along with a quick 1-4 second flash of the light on the dvd drive, but that's all she's doing. Any suggestions on where to start in the morning with correcting this issue?

thanks

Reset the CMOS: disconnect the power cord, remove the battery, place the jumper on the CLR pins, leave it for 10-15min. Press the power button in the meantime to discharge the caps.

Replace the jumper, re-install the battery, power up.

Good luck!

yeah, that's pretty much all I did, though I only waited for 30 seconds or so.

I was thinking I was going to have to do this procedure posted by the guy biker in this thread. But I'm just glad I fvck any bios chip up, the wife wouldn't have liked that.

thanks

Cool. So I'm assuming everyting is working fine, right...?

I used to use the Windows updater too, but it is a bit risky, and all it does is it overwrites the existing BIOS.

I went back to the old trusty floppy and the AWDFLASH command - it uses all the switches to clean the old BIOS and old settings thoroughly.

Yeah, everything is fine. Had to set up my bios again so the proper hard drive would boot and also bumped the E6300 back up to 2.8Ghz. I don't know what made me want to update the bios, but just thought I haven't done it since last winter, and it seemed to work fine using the windows updater last time. I don't think I'll update it again, and if I do it'll be using the dos prompt.

thanks.
