Hey everyone. I have a Core 2 Duo e6400, and 2GB of OCZ Platinum ram. I used to have an ASUS P5B mobo, but it wouldn't POST. So I called ASUS, and they said that it is actually incompatible with the Core 2 Duo without a BIOS update, yet it didn't have a removable BIOS chip. So, I am now returning the mobo.
Now, I need to think about a new mobo. At first, the DS3 was looking good. But I saw one problem: it only accepted 1.8v ram, and my 2.1v ram wouldn't be compatible.
So, I looked at what the next cheapest Core 2 mobo may be. I found a good deal on the P5B Deluxe, and am thinking about buying it. Oh, and BTW, all the 975X mobo's aren't inside my budget.
So, I just need to make sure. Will this mobo be compatible with my CPU and ram? Thanks very much for any help.

How could a P5B not support a Core 2 Duo?

It says on the box "Core 2 Ready".

I was thinking about getting an E6400 and P5B, I shoulden't do this anymore?

Hm, I dunno. I was decieved by the box too, but then again, it was probably because my P5B lacked the 0211 BIOS, which I believes fixes compatibility (one of the new features is Add New CPU Ucode to support new CPUs, probably meaning Core 2).

My only concern is that I've heard some people have had problems with their OCZ Gold 6400. I have OCZ platinum 6400, so I'm not sure if it's compatible.

i had similar issues with the whole cup error ucode error blah blah but the new BIOS update does away with that. i though all 965 boards where Core 2 ready.

i was going to go with OCZ until i went to my local compouter shop to buy it and the guy there told me that i should get the cheaper and just as good corsair Twin2x 6400. he said the OCZ was temperamental and was not compatible with a lot of things. i am happy with my purchase and saved a fair few which i dully spent on getting the arctic freezer 7 pro and a few extra case fans. SWEET!!!
